Annual PFFMA Convention

Event Description:
The Canyon Fire Department and Canyon Firefighters Association are currently working with the Executive Board of the Panhandle Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association (PFFMA), the Canyon Chamber of Commerce, and the Randall County Fire Department will be bringing the Annual PFFMA Convention to the City of Canyon. The PFFMA was founded in 1953 and its annual convention has been held in Amarillo every year since the conception. On average the convention has an attendance of 150-200 members plus their families from area Fire Departments. The convention occurs the weekend after Mother’s Day each year in May. This year’s convention has been scheduled for May 16-18, 2014, in Canyon. We believe that this convention will have a positive economic impact to the City of Canyon, not only during the convention but also with the likeliness of these families returning to Canyon for weekend visits after seeing what this city has to offer for family activities.
The 2013 convention secured approximately 85 rooms at one hotel in Amarillo. We currently have commitments from the Holiday Inn, Best Western to block off all rooms for the 2014 convention hotel reservations and have agreed to provide the rooms at their Government Rate of $85.00 per night.
Along with the Canyon Hotels, WTAMU and ARAMARK has offered their full support with providing meeting, banquet, and any other needed facilities to make this convention a success so that it will be likely to return for the following years. Other entities that we are working with to provide activities are Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum and the Virgil Henson Activity Center at WTAMU.
With this convention there will be in excess of 200 firefighters and their families that will be visiting our community during this convention. We encourage each business to consider supporting these visitors during their stay such as: goodie bags, give away items, discounts, etc. Our goal is not only to host this convention annually, but to entice these attendees to return for future visits. If you have any items your business would like to contribute to this convention please forward the items to the Chamber of Commerce or contact one of the individuals listed contacts.
