Name: Georgia O'Keeffe Day at the PPHM
Date: November 15, 2014
Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
Event Description:
As part of this year’s theme, Women of the West, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum has offered exhibitions and special programming related to women’s history on the Panhandle Plains. We invite families and especially children to join PPHM in celebrating the 127th birthday of renowned artist Georgia O’Keeffe on Saturday, November 15th  from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Family-friendly festivities will include creating your own O’Keeffe inspired artwork and a birthday cake celebration.

O’Keeffe taught art in the Amarillo public schools from 1912 to 1914 before moving to New York and South Carolina. She returned to the Panhandle, moving to Canyon to become the head of the Art Department at West Texas State Normal College, today West Texas A&M University, from 1916 to 1918. It was during this time that she painted many of her works depicting Palo Duro Canyon.

Guests attending Georgia O’Keeffe day will hear a brief presentation about the artist before making their own O’Keeffe inspired piece and enjoying a celebratory slice of birthday cake (while supplies last). This event is free with museum admission. For more information about this event or other programs, please contact Amy Mitchell at amitchell@pphm.wtamu.edu or call 806-651-2242.
