2015 Randall County Ag show & Crops Tour
The 39th Randall County Crops Tour is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2015. The tour will kick off at 8:30 a.m with registration at the Kuhlman Extension Center (located at 200 North Brown Rd. Canyon, Texas). The morning portion will consist of a variety of program speakers starting at 9:00 a.m. addressing the following topics: “Beefing Up Your Stocker Cattle Management Plan “Presented by Dr. Ted McCollum Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Beef Cattle Specialist- Amarillo; “Sugar Cane Aphid and Hedgehog Insect Update “Presented by: Dr. Ed Bynum, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Entomologist- Amarillo; “Farm Bill Sign Up- Final Results and Summary” Dr. Steve Amosson, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Economist and DeDe Jones, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Risk Management Specialist- Amarillo; “Veterinarian Feed Additive Direct Initiative “Presented by: Dr. Tom Portillo, DVM Friona Industries, Friona, Texas;
The noon luncheon and awards presentation will begin at 12:00 noon and is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank of Canyon. Presentation of the 2015 Randall County Extension Top Hand and Outstanding Result Demonstrator along with Agribusiness Awards will be presented. Following the awards, the noon luncheon featured keynote speaker will be Duane Lenz, General Manager& Marketing Analyst; Cattle Fax- Centennial, Colorado “Adjusting to a Rapidly Changing Cattle and Grain Market”.
At 1:30 p.m. all participants will have an opportunity to view and learn the newest technology in agricultural equipment with the display and presentations from local and area dealers, just south of the Kuhlman Extension Center. Then we will load tour bus, sponsored by the Palo Duro Soil & Water Conservation District of Canyon and head out for the tour. This year there will be three feature stops. The first tour stop site will be at 2:00 p.m. “Grass Control in Grain Sorghum with the Inzen Trait”- Jim Fishbacker Farm located 1.5 miles North of Canyon on Soncy and Country Club (field on east side).
STOP 2: 3:00 p.m. – “Sorghum Variety Trial”- Greg Glover Farm 1 mile West of intersection at Soncy/ FM 2219 (field at Helium Rd. - south side). The final tour STOP 3: 4:00 p.m. – “Bushland Forage Sorghum Trial” (100 Hybrids) - Michael Menke Farm- west on I-40, Exit Arnot Rd., head west on frontage 1 mile to Hill Rd. (plots- west side).
The tour should conclude around 4:30 p.m. Three (3) CEU’s will be provided for all Private Applicators (1-Drift Minimization; 1- IPM; 1-General). This year there will be no cost for those who attend as the Extension Cost Recovery Fee will be sponsored by Happy State Bank.
