Wayland Baptist University Fallen Warriors Run

Wrestlers selling zipline tickets to aid Fallen Warriors
For the fifth straight year, Wayland Baptist’s wrestling team is supporting our country’s Fallen Warriors, and you can help and have some adventurous fun at the same time.
The Pioneer wrestlers have chosen to support the American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation (http://afwmf.org/) as their servant-leadership project. AFWMF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the goal of building a memorial to honor our Fallen Warriors from the Gulf War to present date. The secondary goal of AFWMF is educating America’s youth about the sacrifices being made for our freedoms.
Since 2012, WBU wrestlers have performed a variety of projects in support of Fallen Warriors. Their main project, however, has been running a six-mile trail in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, and this year is no different.
On Friday the wrestlers will head to the canyon for their annual run, arriving at 1:30 pm, September 18, 2015.
Donations to support their cause are being accepted, and for the second year in a row the wrestlers have teamed up with Palo Duro ZipLine to sell discounted zip line tickets. If you’ve never been zip lining, or if you’ve been but not in the “Grand Canyon of Texas,” you’re in for a thrill. (For more information on Palo Duro ZipLine, go to www.palodurozip.com.)
Palo Duro Adventure Park ZipLine tickets normally sell for $30, but for a limited time they can be purchased from the WBU wrestling team for only $20. The tickets are good on weekends through Jan. 1, 2016.
Since they began helping Wounded Warriors, Wayland’s wrestlers have surpassed the previous year’s fundraising efforts. After bringing in more than $3,100 last year –boosting their grand total to close to $8,100 – the wrestlers have their work cut out for them in 2015.
“We hope you can help us in this very worthy cause,” WBU wrestling coach Aaron Meister said. “Our student-athletes look forward to this event every year because they understand it is such a good cause and deserves our support.”
Anyone wanting to donate to Wounded Warriors or purchase discounted zip line tickets may contact Coach Meister at 806-291-3845 or meistera@wbu.edu.
