DESCRIPTION:Palo Duro Canyon State Park presents the 4th annual History Day celebration\n\nVisitors are invited to experience the history of Palo Duro as it comes alive in this exciting event\n\n \n\nCanyon\, TX:  From 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday October 22\, 2016\, Palo Duro Canyon State Park will host its 4th annual History Day celebration at the Mack Dick Group Pavilion located in the park.  This event will feature living history reenactors\, hands-on experiences and lots of chances to learn about the history of the area in fun and unique ways.  In a single visit to Palo Duro Canyon State Park\, a visitor can:\n\n \n\n	Experience live firing of a real artillery piece and historic small arms \n	Witness a breathtaking performance by the Kwahadi Indian Dancers at 11:00am. \n	Take a walk through the past with reenactments from the Frontier Regiment of the High Plains\, the TPWD Buffalo Soldiers\, the 1st Texas Light Artillery and others \n	Learn to throw an atlatl and win a prize in the throwing contest \n	Chow down on some delicious food from local food trucks \n	Enjoy some cowboy poetry with the Southwest Cowboy Poets Association \n	Play exciting Native American and pioneer games \n	Experience the canyon first hand on a guided nature walk on the Pioneer Nature Trail \n	Find out how to knap flint weapons and tools \n	Explore the many uses of the American Bison \n	See firsthand the kind of hard work that the Civilian Conservation Corp put into building your park \n	Learn how the Lords of the Plains\, the Comanche Indians\, made their living on the Llano Estacado\n\n \n\nEntrance fees into the park are $5 per adult and free for children 12 and under.  There is no additional cost for this event.  According to Park Interpreter Jeff Davis\, ?This is an opportunity for everyone to come out and help us create some new history as we celebrate our biggest History Day yet.?

LOCATION:About Palo Duro Canyon State Park: Located just 12 miles east of Canyon\, Tx\, Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States. The state park features a scenic drive of about 16 miles\; it has more than 50 miles of hiking\, biking and equestrian trails\; and it is also home to the Texas Outdoor Musical\, which just completed its 51st season.
